Description

Tamoxifen is a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) used to treat all stages of hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer in women and men. Tamoxifen is used to prevent and treat gynecomastia. It is taken as a preventative measure in small doses or used at the onset of any symptoms such as nipple soreness or sensitivity. Other medications are taken for similar purposes such as clomifene and anti-aromatase drugs which are used in order to try to avoid the hormone-related adverse effects. Tamoxifen is an off-label option to treat men for breast cancer, infertility, and idiopathic gynecomastia. Lately, tamoxifen has been proposed as a treatment to prevent gynecomastia in prostate cancer patients receiving antiandrogen therapy.
